Mosquito nets and bedding. Simple things in the fight against Malaria.
This is our lovely girl Marion from the OrphFund Kasese Children's Village. A couple of days ago Marion fell ill and yesterday was diagnosed with malaria and is now in hospital. She has the best of care and we expect her home in a couple of days.
Malaria is the leading cause of death, illness, and school absences in Uganda.
So It's time to replace mosquito nets, mattresses and bedding for each of our children at our 8 Children's Villages and we need your help!
Sleeping is important! Even the smallest donation will help all our children sleep in clean, healthy, comfortable beds.
Mosquito net: $4
Blanket + Sheet + Pillow: $9
Double bunk bed: $28
Malaria is one of the biggest threats to young African children, resulting in serious illness, expensive medical treatment, missing school and sometimes death. The best defence is mosquito nets. The nets usually last 2-3 years until they start to shred and need to be replaced.
Many of our children also need new bedding. After 3-4 years the foam mattresses disintegrate and are often filthy, urine-soaked and sometimes bedbug-ridden. Plus lot of the bunkbeds need repairs or full replacement as they get quite rickety over the years.

Orphfund Girls' Home
Since 2010, OrphFund has partnered with community-based organisations from four sub-counties in Kasese District, southwest Uganda, to support the education and wellbeing of orphaned children and their communities. One of these is the remote, rural township of Karusandara, which is populated by a strong and impassioned community working hard to overcome economic and social disadvantage.
For the last six years OrphFund has worked closely with the Karusandara Union of Women Association (KUWA) to develop local primary school facilities and ensure support for the ongoing operation of the school. Together we have overseen the construction of new classrooms, compost toilets and, more recently, dorm rooms for the girls, who are particularly vulnerable to violent attacks when travelling to/from school.
Right now we are in urgent need of additional funding to complete the girls' dorms. This includes: flooring, plastering, solar lighting and security. Can you help us?

STEVE ARGENT TURNS 40!
This milestone marks OrphFunds tenth birthday, and the passing of a decade of Steve's life spent in service to the children of Orphfund. An incredible human being, Steve has not only changed thousands of children's lives throughout Africa, but simultaneously inspired and empowered thousands of people within Australia and beyond to step up and create the change we all want to see.
After a decade of tireless unrecognised work, true to form, Steve's only birthday wish is to visit our children in Sierra Leone.
Help us give Steve this gift. To say thankyou for all he has helped, changed and inspired.....

We've been analysing ways in which we can help the greater community recover from the setback of Ebola in Sierra Leone and came up with this. So far we have distributed 100 loans to help families grow their own basic food again. A donation of just $20 (£10) has never been more empowering!
