Why we do it
Sadly our world is one that lacks balance. The amount of people falling into poverty continues to rise, with billions struggling to survive without basic necessities such as clean water, sanitation, food and primary education.
-
UNICEF estimates the number of orphans at 210 million in the world today.
-
25,000 children die each day due to poverty or one child dying every 3.5 seconds.
-
The silent killers are poverty, hunger, easily preventable diseases and illnesses, and other related causes.
-
Some 1.8 million child deaths occur each year as a result of diarrhoea.
-
Number of children in the world 2.2 billion.
-
Number in poverty - 1 billion (every second child.)
-
Children out of education worldwide - 134 million.
-
1.4 million die each year from lack of access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.
-
2.2 million children die each year because they are not immunized.
-
15 million children have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS.
-
Infectious diseases continue to blight the lives of the poor across the world. Every year there are 350–500 million cases of malaria, with 1 million fatalities: Africa accounts for 90 percent of malarial deaths and African children account for over 80 percent of malaria victims worldwide.
-
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
These alarming statistics continue to throw millions of children's lives in to severe hardship and struggle. Our aim is to create a network that offers support to children severely affected by poverty and to help install preventative measures that can help more children in the future.
